How does a cliff turn into a lone pillar in the sea?
When waves enlarge cracks into caves and arches until part of the headland collapses. Waves repeatedly strike a rocky headland. Weak zones widen into caves, which may cut through to form an arch. Eventually the arch roof falls. A separated column of more resistant rock remains offshore as a sea stack.
