Why do giant boulders sometimes sit far from their home rock?
Because glaciers can carry huge rocks and drop them when the ice melts. Moving ice can pluck blocks from bedrock and transport them for many kilometres. The rock travels inside or on the glacier. When the ice melts, the boulder is left behind, sometimes resting on completely different local geology.
