Why did some dinosaurs have hollow bones?

Because air-filled bones could reduce weight without sacrificing much strength. Many dinosaurs had spaces inside their bones connected to air sacs. This made parts of the skeleton lighter and may also have supported highly efficient breathing systems, especially in large or active species.
