How can hummingbirds hover in one spot?
Their wings move rapidly forwards and backwards, creating lift throughout each wingbeat. A hummingbird can move its wings forward and backward very quickly, making lift on both parts of the wingbeat. That lets it hang in the air while it sips nectar from a flower.
