History & Time

How do scientists know which dinosaurs were related?

Their skeletons preserve patterns that reveal shared ancestry. Scientists compare features in skulls, hips, limbs and vertebrae across many species. Groups that share distinctive structures probably inherited them from common ancestors, allowing researchers to build evolutionary family trees.
