How do toasters pop bread up?
A timer releases a latch, allowing a coiled spring to lift the toast. While hot wires do the toasting, a latch holds your bread down and a spring stays coiled, ready to go. The instant the timer finishes, that latch releases and the spring pops your toast right up.
