Space

How do scientists measure things in space?

They combine geometry, light, radar and the known behaviour of stars. Nearby distances can be measured by watching how an object appears to shift as Earth moves. For farther objects, scientists use brightness, spectra and other reliable clues, checking several methods against one another.
