How do rockets survive the heat of re-entry?
Heat shields protect the spacecraft as compressed air becomes extremely hot around it. Re-entering spacecraft meet the atmosphere at enormous speed. Their shields insulate the inside, radiate heat away or deliberately wear away so the dangerous energy does not reach the people and equipment within.
