How do scientists know some dinosaurs cared for their young?

Fossils sometimes preserve adults, nests and young dinosaurs together. Certain nesting sites contain adults positioned close to eggs or juveniles, suggesting that some dinosaurs guarded nests or remained near their young. Bone beds containing several age groups can also reveal family or social behaviour.
