Why did dinosaurs evolve into so many different shapes?

Because different environments rewarded very different ways of surviving. Over millions of years, dinosaurs adapted to different foods, predators and habitats. Some became giant plant-eaters, others fast hunters, armoured defenders or small feathered forms. Natural selection gradually produced an extraordinary variety of bodies.
