Why did some dinosaurs stay surprisingly small?

Being small could be just as useful as becoming enormous. Smaller dinosaurs needed less food, could move through tighter spaces and often reproduced more quickly. Some lived in forests or ecological niches where a giant body would have been a disadvantage rather than a strength.
